Description

Ex Army 'Blitz' trucks (Ford). First Northern Territory Mobile Dental units for Kimberley and Barkly cattle stations. Two of these ex-Army "Blitz" wagons were driven from Brisbane: First overland mobile to the Kimberley was 1950, Geoff Marles, Dentist; Ian Bond,Technician. These wagons not suitable, many breakdowns and hot, they were used up till 1953. The last Kimberley Mobile Unit departed 25 May 1955. Dentist, Geoff Downes and Technician, Howard Truran in a dodge truck, still not suitable as only 13 cm. clearance, roads were extremely bad and they had 35 cattle stations to visit. Later in 1956 the newly appointed NT Senior Dental Officer, Bernie Collins arranged for the same by air. He departed in 1959 - died in London 1997. A very popular Senior Dental Officer.,
