Karen Rush competing in the long jump at a school sports day, Darwin Oval, Darwin, NT.
Karen was a happy student at St Mary’s School for 4 years while her parents worked for the NT Administration from 1959 to 1963. In Melbourne previously she suffered terrible life-threatening asthma. When she arrived in DARWIN she never suffered it again. It was amazing.
Karen played top pennant tennis and was a leader in every year she was at St Mary’s. She had 6 years of piano instruction in 3 years, sang and played at many eisteddfods, accompanied our youth orchestra.
Karen learned to write and enter national essay competitions and fell in love with poetry.
During WWII, my father, Clay Rush was an Army member active during every raid by the Japanese in Darwin.,
