48 SPORT SUNDAY OCTOBER 6 2019 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 Kings of the mile team up for win RAY THOMAS CHRIS Waller and Glen Boss are the Royal Randwick Mile Kings. The Hall of Fame trainer and jockey duo combined again to win another Randwick major with Kolding in the Group 1 $1 million Epsom Handicap (1600m). Kolding gave both their fourth Epsom. Waller won previously with Boban (2013), Hes Your Man (2014) and Winx (2015). Boss won with Shogun Lodge (2000), Racing To Win (2006) and Captain Sonador (2010). This is on top of Wallers six Doncaster Miles and Bosss all-time riding record of seven wins in the autumn carnival showpiece. Kolding capped Wallers perfect day, which included a national record four Group 1 winners and world record seven stakes winners. Waller saddled up runners in six races at Randwick and won the lot, including a Group 1 treble with Kolding, Come Play With Me (The Metropolitan) and Funstar (Flight Stakes). He also trained Group 2 Hill Stakes winner Verry Elleegant, Group 3 Breeders Plate winner Global Quest and Dealmaker (Gow Gates Handicap). At Flemington, Waller trained the Group 1 quinella with Kings Will Dream beating stablemate Finche in the Turnbull Stakes, and the Group 2 Blazer Stakes with Haut Brion Her. Waller said his rise to the summit of Australian training ranks began with Boss and Triple Honour in the 2008 Doncaster Handicap. That gave me the confidence to be where I am now, he said. It has been an amazing ride since. Ive got to say it was a great ride by Bossy and full credit to him because he identified this horse a month ago as the horse he wanted to ride in the Epsom. These big Randwick miles are races people talk about and owners want to win. Kolding ($5.50 equal favourite) held off Te Akau Shark ($5.50 equal favourite) to win by a nose with another Waller runner Star Of The Seas ($13) three lengths away third. Waller trained all three major race winners, with Come Play With Me taking out the $750,000 The Metropolitan (2400m) to complement the wins of stablemates Kolding in the Epsom Handicap and Funstars Flight Stakes. The Hall of Famer also prepared the Turnbull Stakes quinella at Flemington with Kings Will Dream and Finche to become the first trainer in Australian racing history to have four Group 1 winners on the same day. Nothing will compare with Winxs last day when she won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes but this is obviously a magnificent day, Waller said. We have a massive team behind us and they put everything into these horses. Holden star tips Mustang sandbagging HOLDEN hero Shane van Gisbergen is predicting dirty tactics from Ford at Mount Panorama next weekend, believing DJR Team Penske could sandbag the allconquering Mustang, holding it back in practice. The Red Bull Holden Racing star claimed the Mustang could prove unbeatable as the iconic Pony returns to Mount Panorama for the first time since 1986. You have no idea who is going to be fast from practice now. There are too many games and there will be no allout pace (until the race), Van Gisbergen said.
