Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to aweek-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSESWigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the clubwanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing withmatch officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where andwhen captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. Journey make or break KATELYN MALLYON ANALYSIS Trinder backs mare to bounce back TROLLED mercilessly following Mystic Journeys last-start defeat, Adam Trinder is content to let the Tasmanian star do the talking for herself in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington. Shocked by the level of anonymous vitriol after the joint Cox Plates favourites second to Gatting in the Makybe Diva Stakes last month, Trinder is supremely confident the mare will bounce back and silence doubters. In regards to proving a point, well just let her do the talking for herself, Trinder said, referring to a torrent of abusive messages following her first loss in eight starts. She owes us nothing. Shes gone out there and done her job. Really happy with the mares condition, she hasnt missed a beat. Shes trained right on from the Makybe Diva. Shes going to go there and run a really forward race, I trust. Aware Cox Plate aspirations rest on a convincing performance, Trinder holds no fears over Mystic Journeys ability to run out 2000m. I feel shes capable of it, he said. I feel shell run 10 furlongs. Every race assignment, shes really run through the line and that was still evident there with her last defeat. She got past Gatting there a hundred metres past the line. THIS is Mystic Journeys biggest test. And todays $500,000 Turnbull Stakes could have $5 million implications for the Cox Plate-bound mare. Not so much the opposition, although Mr Quickie did catch the eye last start flashing into third in the Makybe Diva Stakes, but the distance (2000m) itself. I think shell get it, and win, but its always a risk until theyve done it. The barrier (nine) is tricky, and there should be speed on, with Trap For Fools, Finche and Hartnell pushing forward. Id be trying to tuck in, if I were riding today, three or four back on the rail if possible, and switch her off early. She went back, wide and looped the field to win the All Star Mile, if she does that again she wont win today. I really think she needs the softest run she can possibly have to make sure she runs the distance. Shes got a tremendous will to win and I think shell need every ounce of it to still be the Cox Plate favourite this afternoon. If you took Gatting out of the Makybe Diva Stakes, she would have won by a length and probably would have shortened even more in the Cox Plate. But getting beat by Gatting, please. If she fails in the Turnbull Stakes I cant see her being the Cox Plate favourite. This race will either make her or break her for the Cox Plate. Yes, shes won 11 of 15 starts, including the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m), but stop the comparisons to Winx right now. It is unfair on Mystic Journey and (trainer) Adam Trinder.
