He was killed in a motorcycle crash in Gray Picture: SUPPLIED as another statistic but to remember him as the person he was. He would want people to remember him as the bloke next door and would hate to be remembered as just a road statistic, she said. Sadly he was just going for a lap around the block before he locked the bike back up. Ms Allards sister, Serena Dalton, said: Mandy (Amanda) was the love of his life and the reason he made his life in Darwin. Mandy has been left devas tated by the loss of her best friend and soulmate. Mt Harris sister Karyn Harris said he had made his life in Darwin over the last decade. My heart is breaking for my baby brother, she said. In a tragic twist Humpty Doo mother Trish Bartlett, 51, was killed just 20 minutes after Mr Harris. She was killed when a Cleanaway rubbish truck crossed into oncoming traffic after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash in its own lane on McMillans Rd. JUDITH AISTHORPE Blaze ravages Elliott house A HOUSE has gone up in flames at a remote township on the Stuart Hwy. The Elliott house, which is understood to be used only for storage and not lived in, is thought to have caught fire through a power box yesterday at 5.30am. A car was parked at the Crawford St house and was destroyed in the fire. Police said no one was injured in the blaze. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Elliott Fire and Emergency Response Unit crew. The police spokesman said at this stage the house fire did not appear to be deliberately lit. THE partner of a man killed in a motorbike accident in Gray last week says she has lost her soulmate. Amanda Allard, the partner of 52-year-old Brett Harris, said he was a hard working, down-to-earth man. Mr Harris was killed when the dirt bike he was riding crashed into a light pole on Priest Cct, Gray on Tuesday last week. Residents of the street came to his aid until St John Ambulance paramedics arrived. He was rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital but died on the way. Ms Allard said she had lost her best friend in the devastating crash. Brett was a good man he was very down to earth and a great mate and hard worker, she said. She said he had an affinity with animals and wouldnt go anywhere without his dog. He was a massive animal lover and was rarely seen without his dog Ringo, she said. Both him and his dog were rough and tough on the exterior but the biggest softies on the inside. She said he was a giving and generous man and would help anyone if they needed it. He would help anyone else even if it meant he would miss out, she said. She urged those that knew Mr Harris to not see his death SPORT: 31 Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is already keen on re-signing with Canterbury BUSINESS: 21 See how Australias top companies fared on the stockmarket yesterday TERRITORY: 15 The NT will have its own hemp industry by 2020, says Natasha Fyles HOROSCOPES: 24 As Mercury turned direct last week, its probably safe to start house hunting Contact Steve Olsson today. 08 8985 7500 6/41 Sadgroves Crescent, Winnellie eldersinsurance.com.au/darwin Soco NT Pty Ltd ABN 37225538556 trading as Elders Doug Yuen Insurance AR No. 1260568 is an Authorised Representative of Elders Insurance (Underwriting Agency) Pty Limited ABN 56 138 879 026, AFSL 340965.
