Many people were forced to leave. EMERGENCY DECLARED INSURANCE CRISIS:Worse was to come after the flood when many insurance companies refused to pay up. HIGH TIDE: The main street of Katherine as the flood hits its high water mark. RUBBISH PILES: Tons and tons of rubbish were removed to the tip in the weeks which followed the flood. SPORT'S CANCELLED: Obviously organised sport was called off for some time after the flood. WASTE: Shop owners had little warning to try and save the contents of their stores.
