Description

This report describes the updated mangrove communities for the approximately 32,000 ha of mangroves and salt flats that line the foreshores of Darwin Harbour, Shoal Bay and areas south of Charles Point and Gunn Point. Results indicate that there has not been any significant, discernible or substantive changes in mangrove forest composition in Darwin Harbour between 1996 and 2016.

Mangrove Monitoring Project: Sub-project A 13 4.2.1 Mangrove Extent Change: Clearing in Darwin Harbour (1996-2016) Overall clearing since 1996 amounts to approximately 319 hectares (Figure 7, Table 3). Clearing was for residential, industry and infrastructure land uses and was mostly restricted to the northern and north-eastern regions of the Harbour. The percent of the entire community area that has been cleared is presented in Table 4. Table 3.
