7 metamorphic rims). Clearly, further study would be required in order to better constrain this conclusion. Exposure, in general, is fair to good, with rolling lowlevel hills dissected by steep narrow dry creek channels. The sampled unit is a migmatitic quartzo feldspathic biotitegarnet metapsammite (Figure21) locally interbedded with minor garnetcordierite metapelite (sample 926344). The sampled unit is intensely deformed; rootless isoclinal folding and fold axisparallel shearing with truncated and transposed fold limbs are common. Dismembered and attenuated quartzofeldspathic leucosomes are common. In thin section, the unit comprises a fine-grained (1 mm diameter), equigranular interlocking groundmass dominated by quartz (ca 5060 modal%), subhedral plagioclase (ca 5%) and Kfeldspar (5 0%) with scattered foxybrown biotite (0%). Quartz has irregular serrated grain boundaries and undulose extinction. Biotite defines a well developed fabric. Some green biotite is also present. Garnet is a minor phase and occurs as irregular anhedral grains (50%), associated with clusters of unaligned biotite. Minor secondary muscovite is present (50%). 400 600 800 1000 1200 1400 1600 0.05 0.07 0.09 0.11 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 238U/206Pb 20 7 P b/ 20 6 P b 'Larapinta event' lower intercept = 466 28 Ma data-point error ellipses are 2 Granodiorite western Albarta Metamorphics Aileron Province ILLOGWA CREEK GA 1926338 NTGS IC05BDG127a Low Th/U (0.05) metamorphic overgrowth; analysis D.38 A 09 -0 28 .a i 1800 Figure 20.
