Biographical notes
In 1971 Dawn was the second woman elected to the NT Legislative Council. She remained in Parliament as an Independent member until 1983 when she retired from politics. Dawn is regarded as one of the most influential women in the Top End and has been described as 'flamboyant'. Following her time as a Member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, Dawn became the Director of the Northern Territory Human Rights Commission. Dawn is the mother of ALP Member of the NT Legislative Assembly Delia Lawrie.,
