Serious crime detectives were yesterday vague about the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the alleged victims, aged 43 and 23, met their alleged assailants two men aged 21 and 22 at a pub in rural Darwin about 9.30pm on Saturday. He said the four men went to a house at Virginia, about 30km from the city, where two were seriously assaulted and robbed. It is alleged the young men dragged the 43-year-old out on to the road where they left him in a semi-conscious state. The two alleged offenders were arrested at Katherine and have been charged with unlawfully causing serious harm, recklessly endangering life, aggravated robbery and assault, criminal damage and deprivation of liberty. New care role funded THE Territory and Commonwealth governments will jointly fund an Alice Springs-based co-ordinator position with the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre. The NCCTRC was established following the 2002 Bali bombings to ensure the Territory has a rapid response capability to deal with mass casualty incidents. Health Minister Robyn Lambley said that the co-ordinator would promote bestpractice emergency and disaster management in Central Australia. Parade of V8s revs up crowd By CLAYTON BENNETT TOP Enders lined the streets of Darwin yesterday to see the V8 Supercar transporters drive through the city. Fans of Ford, Holden and every car in between gathered at Raintree Park to meet drivers and see the colourful and noisy truck convoy pass by. The transporters honked their horns loud and proud announcing the arrival of the V8s ahead of todays Skycity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley. Semi trailers carrying the cars paraded from Hidden Valley Raceway to the city heading down Knuckey St. Families and motor enthusiasts alike cheered on the trucks as they made their way through to Tiger Brennan Drive. The traditional convoy attracted a large crowd with more than a hundred Darwinites and tourists having a squiz. Revhead Ian Grinn said he was excited to attend the weekend events after previously working at the races. Mr Grinn had collected signatures from all his favourite V8 Supercar drivers and could not wait to see who would win this years event. Drivers scribbled their autographs on posters and merchandise. Red Bull Racing star Craig Lowndes posed for a photo with his fans including young sisters Taya and Ella Larkmah. Motor sport lover Paul Young from Tiwi said the atmosphere of the V8 Supercars was what he enjoyed the most. Its exciting to watch, he said. High-flying racers CARS will not be the only things speeding past Hidden Valley this weekend with one of the Australian Air Forces elite fighter planes set to conduct a high-speed display. An F/A-18 Hornet will impress crowds at the Skycity V8 Supercar Championship Series. The aerial display will be conducted by the 75 Squadron from RAAF base Tindal, near Katherine, before the main race. The first display tomorrow will start at 3pm and on Sunday at 1.05pm. The Hornet fighter pilot will perform maximum rate turns, a configured pass along the racetrack and a high-speed pass.
