This Weed Management Plan forms part of a strategic approach to gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus) management in the NT, with the overall aim being to mitigate the damage caused by gamba grass in relation to the natural environment, property and infrastructure and public health. A comprehensive weed risk management assessment found gamba grass to be a very high risk weed where potential exists for successful management.

Support and information for land managers The Weed Management Branch (NRETAS), together with the Department of Resources (DoR) (Pastoral Production) will continue to provide advice pertaining to the use and management of exotic pastoral grasses consistent with the goals of this management plan. The Weed Management Branch will continue to provide training, advice and extension materials to support improved gamba grass management. It contains detailed information on the biology and ecology of gamba grass, the environmental, economic, cultural and social impacts of gamba grass and the feasibility of gamba grass control. Weed Risk Assessment Report Gamba Grass This document cites the sources of information, from literature or expert personal observation, that were used to determine weed risk and feasibility of control ratings for each weed species assessed. These findings have guided the development of the management recommendations. Gamba Grass Frequently Asked Questions series These leaflets have been developed to answer questions raised during the public consultation processes. They address issues such as buffer zones and revegetating after eradiation. NT Weed Management Handbook Provides information on strategic and planned approaches to weed management, including integrated weed control methods. Specific information is provided on herbicides registered for use in the NT. The 37 Weed control option tables include a colour photo of the weed in question, list which herbicides are registered for use, indicate optimum treatment times and which method/s can be employed for maximum effectiveness.
