Stories for Community Services In May, Ali Curung Youth Sport and Recreation(YSR) held a dinner for the youths aged 15 24 to discuss if there were any issues, concerns or problems that they may be experiencing and get input on what type of activities they would like to see within YSR. From this dinner a youth leadership group was formed. Topics that were discussed included; to provide leadership and empowerment opportunities for the youths of the community to gain skills and understand their strengths and weakness; take various forms such as advocacy groups, peer education and service-learning; and participate in decision making changes, implementation and evaluation (with the support from YSR and other stakeholders). A participant in the youth leadership group could - increase your self-esteem, self-efficacy, social skills, improve problem solving skills; and be a voice for the youths of the community. The group selected four young people to represent the group. Left to right in the below picture James Corbett Miller, Trent Miller, Jemicka Beasley and Zania Rice.
