Pam was elected to Parliament in the seat of Fannie Bay in 1977. She became Deputy Leader of the Australian Labor Party in 1981 but was defeated in the 1983 election. Following her career in politics, Pam has had a distinguished career working in the field of human rights and social justice. Her positions have included: being the first Commonwealth Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Member of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, Member of the National Native Title Tribunal and Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, ACT.,
