IJ 121 TO THE HONOURABLE THE SPEAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY: The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of the Northern Territory respectfully shows that: 1) they are opposed to strip tease shows and the use or employment of persons naked, semi-naked or wearing see-through clothing in licenced premises or other public places; 2) the abovesaid are morally degrading and reinforce the perception of men/women as sex objects; and 3) the sexual abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and alcoholism are common occurrences in the Northern Territory and these shows further exacerbate the problems. Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory will legislate: 1) to prohibit the use or employment of persons in any capacity appearing naked, semi-naked or wearing see-through clothing; and 2) to prohibit all forms of entertainment described as strip-tease shows or strip acts, lingerie shows, erotic dance acts, demonstrations of wrestling in mud, jelly or other substances in a naked or semi-naked state or any entertainment of a lewd or indecent manner in any licenced premises or other public place in the Northern Territory. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
