20 BUSINESS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4 2020 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 Top gong to Sunbuild THE new multi-million George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre took the top gong at the Territorys Master Builders Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in Darwin late last month. Territory contractor Sunbuild was honoured with the Best Project Award for the visitor centre and it went on to receive the 2020 Presidents Award the highest overall honour that any construction project can receive. Prolific award-winning home builder, McT Design and Construction, won Home of the Year with the Compain residence in Girraween. This project also won a number of other awards demonstrating the attention to detail that this company brings to all of its projects. In one of the largest events of the year, 126 entrants vied for awards, across the full spectrum of construction activity. Best projects, top quality businesses, and our rising stars were all anointed. Master Builders NT chief executive Dave Malone said despite 2020 bringing incredible changes, it didnt stop the Territorys construction industry pumping out outstanding projects. And they were on full show last Saturday night at the Excellence in Building and Construction Awards, Mr Malone said. Halikos Constructions was another standout winner for its Warren Park project. While this project drew some political controversy earlier on, the judges noted that there was no controversy in the execution by Halikos and awarded them their Judges Award, Mr Malone said. Other notable winners included: La Perouse Homes which won two renovation/exten sions awards; Max Bowne from Espec PH who won the James Bell Overall Apprentice of Year for the best apprentice in the NT; and; Keeta Welch, Shape Australia who was named Woman in Construction for 2020. Some of these winners have now been nominated for national awards which will be announced in Canberra in late November. Initial fieldwork has uncovered two new mineralised zones. Shree says the combined results of rock chip and auger programs indicate a more widespread quartz vein system than previously thought. The firm is planning further programs of reconnaissance geological mapping, rock chip sampling and soil sampling to generate targets for drilling. A grid-based soil sampling program will test all areas with quartz veins within the principal east-west trending mineralised zone. Based on the results of that program, a larger vehicle-mounted auger will be used to penetrate the sand cover and take samples from a depth of one-to-two metres.
