British investment firm Terra Firma, which owned CPC, sold off around half of its cattle properties in the Northern Territory and Queensland between 2018 and 2019. This netted a combined sale price of around $310m to a mixture of Australian and foreign buyers. In October last year what was left of CPC became the target of a management buyout said to be worth $600m. The buyout was led by CPCs chief executive Troy Setter and the multi-millionaire founder of Terra Firma, Guy Hands, who has bought out his own firms stake in CPC. The sale includes just under 300,000 head of cattle, nine pastoral leases across the Northern Territory and Queensland. Between them the properties total close to 3.2 million hectares. The sale also includes a 90 per cent stake in a feedlot business in Indonesia. CPCs properties include Newcastle Waters Station, once owned by Kerry Packer, which has been earmarked as the proposed location for the worlds largest solar farm. Sun Cable has started the process of getting its environmental approvals in place for the proposed solar farm, making a referral to the Northern Territorys Environment Protection Authority (EPA), and outlining further details about its plans for Newcastle Waters and its outstation, Powell Creek. CPCs chief executive Mr Setter said there was full support for Sun Cable and its project to develop renewable energy capture on Newcastle Waters. Mr Setter said that there would be little change in the companys direction after the CPC sale.
