The Gary Clarke-trained eight-year-old with jockey Jarrod Todd showed off his pace and power without a weight disadvantage. With the handicap known, many looked to avoid The Captain so he ended up against four stablemates. Clarkes Patria came second behind the tough sprinter five The Captain proves to punters hes worth the weight lengths back followed by Garry Lefoes Alassak, the only runner of the field not trained by Clarke. Divine Red and Im Too Hot completed the pack further back. Happy as you can be with a win like that, The Captain is just an old warrior and he keeps going, Clarke told the NT News. He dropped 7-8kg from his last race which he won so he was always going to be a hard horse to beat. Hes probably as good a weight-for-age horse you can get. Its probably why there was a limited field here with some people looking at the handicap and thinking he would be rather unbeatable so sidestepped him instead. On the others I was happy with Patria who ran a nice second but a little disappointed with Divine Red who I thought would have a stronger race and maybe even beat The Captain. Other winners on Tuesday included, Salty (trainer Phil Cole, jockey Alice Lindsay), She Shines Bright (Patrick Johnston, Stan Tsaikos), Arfa Crown (Sherrie Lawlor, Kim Gladwin), Mini Boom (Cole, Wayne Davis) and Fort Knox (Clarke, Todd).
