This document outlines the process for developing the new Weed Management Plan for Gamba Grass 2020 – 2030. Developed in accordance with the requirements of the Weeds Management Act 2001 the Weed Management Plan for Gamba Grass 2020 – 2030 replaces all previous gamba grass weed management plans developed by the Weed Management Branch (WMB). This 10 year weed management plan is the second one created for gamba grass. The first 10 year plan was released in 2010 and was subsequently reviewed on two occasions. A summary of each gamba grass plan review since 2010 is provided in this document along with an evaluation of how successful plan implementation has been.
The situation regarding gamba grass in the Northern Territory has significantly evolved since the release of the first gamba grass plan in 2010. Changes have included establishment of compliance capacity within the Weed Management Branch, increased community concern, management costs and detrimental impacts relating to gamba grass.
A Gamba Grass Weed Advisory Committee (WAC) was established to develop the new Plan in 2020. With the Minister’s endorsement, this committee was comprised of members who have the expertise and experience relevant to the management of gamba grass.,
