Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to aweek-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSESWigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the clubwanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing withmatch officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where andwhen captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. PAT FIT TO PLAY KANSAS City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes confirmed he was fit to start this mornings (NT time) AFC Championship clash with the Buffalo Bills following his concussion last weekend. Mahomes, the Most Valuable Player of last seasons Super Bowl, was knocked out during the NFL playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns after suffering a head injury midway through the third quarter. The 25-year-old star entered the leagues concussion protocol after the exit, and has played only a limited part in practices for the Chiefs this week. However, Mahomes told reporters he had been given the all-clear to line up against the Bills at Arrowhead Stadium where a place in the Super Bowl will be at stake. I just got out of the protocol, Mahomes said. This week has just been a bunch of testing, and a bunch of different things to make sure that Im good to go and theres no lingering effects or anything like that. But everything has been good, three or four different doctors have said everything looks well. POGBA PRODUCES PAUL Pogba is back in form for Manchester United at just the right time as the Premier League leaders prepared for their FA Cup showdown with bitter rivals Liverpool early this morning (NT time). Pogba has been a constant source of friction during his second spell with United, and recent suggestions that he was keen to engineer a close-season transfer came as little surprise. Mino Raiola, the France midfielders agent, infuriated United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December by giving an interview in which he suggested Pogba wanted to leave because he was unhappy with the lack of freedom granted to him at Old Trafford. At the time, Pogbas form was erratic. But from the ashes of what looked like a season-defining calamity, both Pogba and United have unexpectedly returned to prominence. Finally showing signs of knuckling down and putting his focus on football rather than his image and commercial interests, Pogba has played a key role in Uniteds surge to the top of the Premier League. KIDS GOAL FEST ITS the season of young talent time in the A-League, with an exciting Australian prodigy seemingly emerging from every game played. That was evident yet again in the game of the season to date, Western Uniteds incredible 5-4 win over Perth Glory with an all-time record of eight second-half goals, all of which were scored in an utterly bonkers 28 minutes. But while it was the kids who inspired one of the most entertaining stanzas of Australian domestic football imaginable, thanks to doubles off the bench from Uniteds Dylan Pi erias and Perths Carlos Armiento, the coach of the victors Mark Rudan has pleaded for calm amid all the wonderkid hype. Sometimes we praise these young players and pump them up, but we need to let them be. I know its a great story, but they dont need the added pressure, he said. A lot of young kids, theyre set to be the next big thing in Australian football, and then they tail off because the expectations become too great. You never know whats going through the mind of a young player. *Entries open at 9.00am AEDT on 18 January 2021 and close 11.59pm AEDT on 21 February 2021.
