Floyd A Bauer, Corporal 39152969 was born about 1913. He completed one year of college prior to enlisting on 26 February 1941 at Los Angeles. His occupation was classified as "Skilled painters, construction and maintenance". He was married.,
History
Enlisted on 26 February 1941 at Los Angeles. Some of the American troops of the 148th Field Artillery were required to spend the night of 18 February on the Tulagi; when the Japanese attacked on 19 February 1942, these troops fought to stay alive alongside their Australian comrades.
Bauer was manning the .50 calibre machine gun of B Battery on the Tulagi. He was wounded in both knees and transferred to the Manunda, where he died of wounds at 12:40 on the 23 February 1942. He was buried at sea the same day at 2:30 pm at Lat. 18°15' S Long. 116° 51' E.
Floyd was awarded a Purple Heart, and is memorialised at Fort William Mckinley, Manila, the Philippines. He was twenty-eight years old when he died.,
