History
The United States Navy was involved in building the Fleet Radio Unit site on Mt. Bundey Station just east of the Adelaide River after the Navy decided to locate a new intercept station as far north as possible. The selection was made on 28 January 1943 and by the end of March they were operational with the help of the Australian Air Force. Fleet Radio Units (FRU) were the major centres for Allied cryptological and signals intelligence during the Pacific Campaign of World War II. This Unit was highly successful at decoding Japanese transmissions.,
