History

Requisitioned in October 1941 Vigilant served on patrol duties in Darwin and performed rescues during raids on Darwin Harbour on 19 February 1942. On 20 January 1942 she participated in the attack on the mine-laying Japanese submarine I-124 which was sunk by HMAS Deloraine the next day. Vigilant was also involved in covert operations with the Special Reconnaisance Department and Z Force commandos on the Timor Ferry run. She was the first aluminium ship built in Australia.,
