A Brewster Buffalo, it had a tubular structure, with angular vertical fin sans rudder, its horizontal tail plane design and a radial engine forward, with spinner, that it's the remains of a forward deployed RAAF No 1PRU Brewster Buffalo A51-6 when bombed on the ground at Hughes airstrip near Darwin NT 29/10/42, On the Back of the photo: "1 of gallant Kitty Hawks which attempted to defend Darwin. 1942",
