History
The Squadron was formed at Townsville in Queensland 31 March 1944 and equipped with Short Sunderland flying boats. The Unit was mainly used for transport duties and search and rescue missions. From July 1944 it was based at Port Moresby but had detachments in Darwin, Townsville and Cairns. After August 1945 the Unit ferried Prisoners of War and other troops back from the islands. The Squadron moved to Rathmines in New South Wales where it was disbanded June 1946.,
