The Unit was formed at Sandfly Gully in Darwin 25 February 1942 as 5 Fighter Sector Headquarters. Their role was to provide fighter control and co-ordinate anti-aircraft defences. They constructed a new operations room July to October 1942 east of the former Berrimah hospital near the war cemetery. Unit renamed to 105 Fighter Sector headquarters 24 October 1943 and renamed to 105 Fighter Control Unit 7 March 1944. The Unit was disbanded 18 April 1946.
