History
On 25 February six days after the first raid 5 Fighter Sector Headquarters was formed as a separate Air Force Unit within the North Western Command Area, the first Fighter Sector established in Australia. Squadron Leader EG Fyfe had arrived from Bankstown NSW to take command. The entry for 28 February 1942 in the Operations Record Book of 5 Fighter Sector lists the personnel as '1 officer ? airmen nil '. The name of the Unit was changed in October 1943 to 105 Fighter Sector Headquarters and later in 1944 to 105 Fighter Sector Control Unit. On 21 January 1945 it became Air Defence Headquarters Darwin. This Unit under its various names was responsible for all air operations over Northern Australia from Broome to Cape York and controlled defensive activity from the airstrips that had been established in the Northern Territory and northwest Western Australia. Shortly after the formation of No 5 Fighter Sector Headquarters the patients and staff of Army General Hospital 119 on Berrimah Road were moved to Adelaide River and No 5 Fighter Sector Headquarters occupied the buildings.,
