History

On 22 May 1945, it was announced that 40 Infantry Battalion was to be disbanded and amalgamated with the 12/50 Infantry Battalion to form the new 12/40 Infantry Battalion. The 12/40 Infantry Battalion came under the command of Norforce on 12 July 1945. Officers and soldiers from 12/40 Infantry Battalion embarked on the SS Van Dem Bosch for operation TOFO.
