The Unit was raised in Western Australia and arrived at Winnellie on 19 October 1941. They assisted in construction of various works from Casuarina to Berry Springs and Adelaide River. They travelled on the Westralia and Marella to Port Moresby where they were transferred to the Aquitania for transport to Singapore. They suffered 2500 casualties (killed in action) in the Malaya Campaign and surrendered at Singapore.
