History

The Battalion was raised at Ingleburn in Sydney during November 1939. It fought in the Middle East at Benghazi, Tobruk, Greece, Crete, Palestine and Syria. They were part of the 6 Division. They arrived back in Adelaide on March 25 1942 and left for the Northern Territory in May 1942. The Battalion arrived at the 66 Mile mark near Pell Airfield in June 1942. They were quartered at Larrakeyah Barracks for some time prior to moving to Atherton. They served in New Guinea at Aitape and Wewak. The Unit was disbanded on 12 October 1945. Ivan Dougherty commanded the Battalion at Tobruk and Derna.,
