History
The Unit was raised as a part of the permanent Australian Army on 14 November 1938 in Sydney. It was an elite force selecting only 245 men from 3000 applicants. It contained both Infantry and Artillery. It arrived in Darwin on the Montoro and Marella in March 1939. On 22 September 1940, the Infantry component became part of the 19 Darwin Infantry Battalion and the Artillery went on to form the 18 Field Artillery Battery.,
