History

Sparrow Force mostly came from 2/40 Infantry Battalion of 23 Infantry Brigade, formed in Tasmania. The Force also included a Commando Unit from 2/2 Independent Company, Western Australia. Hopelessly outnumbered in Timor, the main force surrendered on 23 February. However, the 2/2 Commando Unit continued to fight a guerrilla war in Timor until December 1942.,
