Be Connected is an Australia wide initiative empowering all Australians to thrive in a digital world. Be Connected is an Australian government initiative committed to increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians. Through the Be Connected online resources, Australians will be able to learn the basics of using digital devices and engaging with the internet, including: being safer while online talking to or seeing family and friends who live far away finding new friends who share interests and hobbies connecting with old friends keeping up to date with whats happening in communities and around the world shopping and selling online, safely and securely. Be Connected is not just a website; it is a national movement working across Australia, within communities, to help people with their digital skills. Our Network Partners are the local arm of Be Connected, and offer in-person help and support to older Australians who are disengaged with digital technology. Kathryn took the opportunity on the 12th May to attend a workshop in Darwin run by the Smith Family. Fun with Maths targets 3 5 year olds to have fun and learn some maths at the same time. Several activities were undertaken by the organized small groups who represented the families who would normally attend these kind of workshops showcasing the activities that could be run. Throughout all the activities there is some measure of calculating to determine a mathematical outcome. Calculating ingredient amounts and weights, measuring lengths and distances, addition and subtraction are just some of the mathematical problems your child will solve without even realizing they are performing a maths problem because they are just having so much fun It is never too early to commence your childs education and these activities not only teach they are a great deal of fun at the same time. If your child is aged 3 5 years and you and/or your family is willing to get involved please contact Kathryn Wynne on 89768401 or email Kathryn.wynne@vicdaly.nt.gov.au for more details.
