The aim of this plan is to control the growth and spread of grader grass in order to protect the natural environment, property, production values, pasture and infrastructure. This aim is based on grader grass being a Class B (growth and spread to be controlled) weed in the Northern Territory under the Weeds Management Act 2001 (the Act). The Act is administered by the Weed Management Branch, Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS). Objectives of this plan focus around achieving this aim.
This weed management plan for grader grass is a statutory plan under the Act. The first statutory plan for grader grass was gazetted on 15 July 2016. Weed management plans are legal documents designated under section 10 of the Act for high risk declared weeds in the Northern Territory. These plans establish the legal requirements and management actions to be undertaken by all owners and occupiers of land on which the declared weed is present in the Northern Territory.
This is the first review of the original 2016 plan. The requirements in this plan replace the requirements of the July 2016 plan. The requirements of this plan take affect from the date it is gazetted, that is 10 November 2021 and will remain in force until 2026; 10 years from the commencement of the first grader grass plan. The next review of this plan is required in 2024.,
