Northern Territory Child Deaths Review and Prevention Committee Annual Report 2020-21 Child death rates by age group, NT, 2016-2020 Annualised age group specific death rates for the five year period are shown in Table 8. The infant death rate of 729.2 deaths per 100,000 children reflects the large number of deaths, most in the neonatal period, that occur in this age group and were the majority of all NT child deaths. The 15-17 years age group are the second highest death rate at 63.4 deaths per 100,000 children and the lowest death rate is the 10 to 14 years age group at 14.6 deaths per 100,000 children. For the five year period from 2016-2020, there were a total of 210 deaths of NT children. The annualised death rate for this period was 139.2 deaths per 100,000 children. The annual rates are presented in Table 7 and Figure 2. It needs to be remembered that there may be additional deaths in recent years that have not yet been reported. The respective rates were 55.7 for females and 75.2 for males with an overall rate of 64.6 per 100,000 children. Across the 5 year period, the annualised infant death rate was 630.0 per 100,000 infants for females and 770.0 for males.
