n o rth e rn te rrito ry le g a l a id c o m m issio n a n n u a l re p o rt 2 0 2 0 /2 1 0 4 5 Information Management Information Act 2002 (NT) Freedom of Information (FOI) gives an individual the right to apply for access to Northern Territory Government information and to access or correct personal information. It is about enhancing government accountability and participation in our democratic system of government. NT Legal Aid continually commits to complying with the Act, information privacy principles and record management requirements. Applications must be made in accordance with section 18 of the Act. On application, the FOI officer arranges the allowable release of information in accordance with the Act and applies exemptions on a case by case basis where applicable. A copy of the Act and FOI request forms are available via the Office of the Information Commissioner's NT website at https://infocomm.nt.gov.au/ General Requests for Information General information requests are managed by senior staff members within each section and region of NT Legal Aid. All requests are guided by the Legal Aid Act 1990 and NT Legal Aid's internal Information Requests Procedure Manual. Applications must be accompanied by proof of identity to facilitate identity checks and applications can be made in person at any of the Commissions offices. If the local office is unable to assist applications are forwarded to the Information Officer based in Darwin. Depending on the location and size of information requested a fee may be incurred. Requests for Publications Available publications are listed on NT Legal Aid's website. Publications are available upon request and free of charge. Processes and procedures are regularly and continually reviewed to ensure internal practices meet requirements under the Information Act 2002 (NT) to ensure, maintain and improve record keeping responsibilities and standards within the organisation. To maintain and enhance the understanding and implementation of efficient practices for information management within NT Legal Aid, staff development, awareness and training remains a priority that NT Legal Aid continually commits to achieve.
