Once again, the Alice Springs community suffer with Masters Games otherwise known as the friendly games being postponed until 2023. The announcement was made in a Media Release on 4 November by the Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles stating The decision has been made in light of continuing uncertainty around COVID-19, and the impacts the worldwide pandemic has had on forward planning for the event. Meanwhile, Minister Fyles announced on 9 November that the Paramatta Eels and North Queensland Cowboys will play at TIO Stadium in Darwin on 30 April 2022. This shortsighted approach to events in Alice Springs is disappointing. We need more events not less to support our Tourism businesses that have been smashed by COVID-19. People will be travelling around Australia next year and with the postponement of the games it means we will miss out on a huge opportunity to bring the games back bigger and better than ever. Helping Sporting Groups We are always happy to help out sporting clubs wherever we can. Recently we printed the score sheets for junior cricket and we also helped Verdi Football Club by printing their junior soccer player award certifi cates. Alice Springs Baseball Association took advantage of the boardroom to put together their T-Ball kits fi lled with goodies from their sponsors. It is always a pleasure to be able to help out, so contact my offi ce to see if we can assist with your sporting association! Alice Springs Karting Club Recently I attended the Alice Springs Karting Club AGM. Congratulations to Jamie Debrenni and Scott Anderson for being elected to the President and Vice president roles as well as everyone who put their hands up to be on the committee. Congratulations to all the Juniors and Seniors on their awards and heres to a bigger and better season for 2022. Junior Cricket using their score sheets Cooper B. playing cricket
