Saturday April 16 2022 OPINION 49 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA The calibre of care we have up here is often not recognised as much as it should be. Rescuing people stuck in precarious places like out at sea or up a mountain, and ensuring they are looked after until they can re Giving thanks to those who care for Territorians in need THE moving scenes of Darwin man Chris Gar-ner reuniting with the service and the people who saved his life were emotional for all involved. CareFlight doctors, nurses and crew were able to work together to bring Chris back from the brink after he experienced a collapsed lung in August last year. He commented he was surprised he was able to be flown with CareFlight despite not being stranded on boats and remote communities, showing just how far-reaching their care can be. Its not only a testament to the work they do, but also a reminder about the strength of services we have available to us here in the Territory. ceive specialised care. Thats the work of superheroes. And as we come out the other side of Covid, we need to acknowledge the thousands of healthcare workers that risked their lives everyday. Despite often battling poor pay conditions and enormous gaps in workforce, these healthcare heroes showed up and worked tire lessly to help sick people. It takes a special kind of person to give up their own time and dedicate their lives to helping others. Next time it could be you, or someone you love needing urgent treatment, so take time to remember how lucky we are to have legends like the people at CareFlight looking after us. Clean up the carparks WHY are the carparks around Coolalinga Central so dirty? I dont believe since the new interstate owners, or the Darwin based managers have taken over the complex has there been any cleaning up of the gravel, broken glass, litter, runaway trolleys, concrete, untended gardens and rubber especially outside the Tavern. Throw in the abandoned construction site next door covered in weeds, junk and a mountain of rubble you get the impression the owners dont care as long as the rents are paid. Sorry, there is a nice Coolalinga Shopping Centre over the road, local IGA at Howard Springs or even Gateway at Palmerston that are alternatives. Its called competition. Gerry Wood, Howard Springs Election thinking How sad was a SMS-er to suggest that Labor is sympathetic to the Russian invasion. Labor has never wavered from its love of Australian democracy. Yes, we have introduced social elements like health, safety and the environment, welfare, universal Medicare and the floating dollar. We have stood and watch by whilst the CLP governments here and in Canberra sold everything not nailed down from ports, airports, gold, TIO and Medibank and destroyed the carbon price, with the help of the loonie Greens, established by Rudd and Howard. Labor is a party that leads on its own. The Libs cannot and must rely on the Nationals. The extremist parties, PHON, United Australia and the Greens are not in consideration for government so their glossy pamphlets should be ignored. Billy Moir, Nightcliff good Samaritan I CAME out to a car alarm going off 3am. I saw a bloke take something, then rode down the road with a bag. I walked out to the road and kicked him off. The bloke hit me and pulled a knife. Rang 000 but took 4 mins for them to even pick up the phone. The bike rider was probably down Humpty Doo way before NT Police woke up. Thank you Michael. Matt, Darwin get on with the game Maybe now that Gillon McLachlan has foreshadowed his retirement from the top job at the AFL, the game can concentrate on getting back to the great game it was before he started interfering. Greg Mills, Wagaman missing the paper There are only two downsides in the NT on Good Friday. The first is not having a paper edition of the NT News. The second is being deprived of CDU Vice Chancellor Scott Bowmans Friday Musings, always so welcomed and informative when not interrupted by public holidays. CDU Alumni we cant do much more So much for lower carbon emissions by Australia. Between wars in Iraq, Afghan, Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia now this Ukraine war with ocean oil spills bombardment of fuel installations & blowing up military vehicles. Driving a V8 & burning tyres in the back yard every weekend in Oz is minor contribution of carbon emissions. V-man doesnt always last Andrew McDonald has signed a 4- year contract to coach the three levels of Australian mens cricket. He needs to take account of the fact that nothing about a four-year contract is permanent. Just ask Justin Langer, Darren Lehmann and Mickey Arthur. Cricket Watcher PLEASE note, any letters in relation to the federal election must include the authors name, street name and suburb. RE ALICE SPRINGS GLAZIERS BEING UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH DEMAND But Gunner and his crew of apparently blind and deaf ministers say there isnt a crime problem in Alice Springs. Kyle Letheby No problems to be seen???? Twining Meagan Gunner: Hire more staff, creating jobs, business is booming ..... whats the problem? Gary Hancock Replace glass with 5mm plate steel? John Smith Just as bad in the Kimberley. David Tate Good for Tourism. Vick Kandiah Just another #gunnerfail. Mario Tsirbas The government need to start paying for thi.s Sarah Nowak Are tourists still visiting Alice? Apryl Alexander Thats why I left. Kaye Cropley How about locking up the culprits. Marion Swenson Doesnt surprise me. Kay Meates Darwin is just as bad. Pamela-Ann Baker All part of Gunners job creation policy. Hayden John Kuczborski RE A DARWIN MAN BEING REUNITED WITH THE CAREFLIGHT TEAM THAT SAVED HIS LIFE Great work Jody. Penny WhinneyHoughton They are my HEROES. Cathy Austbo RE A SELF-DESCRIBED STONER RUNNING AS AN NT SENATE CANDIDATE Good CV, hes got my vote. Luke Dwyer Stoner and horse whisperer, exactly what we need running the country and writing law lol. James Neill Might do a better job than the clowns in office atm ..... Angela Nason Tom Holdstack, Alec Harvey and Bryce Franzini enjoyed the NRL grand final at Monsoons in 2015. Theyre among the Darwinites pictured in our nightclub flashback galleries.
