History

The Regiment was raised on 17 October 1940 as part of the 8 Division. The 27 Battery was recruited from Victoria and the 28 from South Australia. The Regiment moved from Puckapunyal on 11 July via Adelaide. The move to Winnellie was completed by 26 July. They took over the obsolete 18 pounder Mk IIs from 2/13 Field Regiment. They built the accommodation at Nightcliff, moving into it by November 1941. Jack Dee of this Regiment died on 19 February 1942 and three other members of the Unit were buried at Adelaide River and one at Alice Springs. In April 1942, the Regiment was re-organised into a three Battery Regiment. The third Battery named the 64 was composed of B Troop from 27 Battery and E Troop from 28 Battery. They moved to Loftus, New South Wales via Mt. Isa. They were re-equipped with 25 pounder guns and served in Cairns, New Guinea and New Britain. 20 men from the Regiment were killed and 10 wounded. The Unit was disbanded in January 1946.,
