40 SPORT Wednesday February 1 2023 NTNEWS.COM.AU NTNE01Z01MA - V1 DARWIN will play host to the best emerging talent from across the country when it hosts the 2023 National Netball Championships in April. From April 11-16, the under-17s and under-19s pathway competitions will be contested at CDU Stadium in Marrara, with the top prospects from across the country coming to compete. The National Netball Championships provide an opportunity for developing athletes to prosper on the national stage with many of the Australian Diamonds squad having previously participated. Netball NT will host squads from ACT, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. New South Wales won both competitions upon the championships return in 2022, but will face hefty competition from other states including the NT. Netball NT chair Catherine Sansom was thrilled at the chance to host the championships in the Top End. We are excited for the NT community who will get to watch the brightest new talent from all states and territories over the week in our home stadium, on Larrakia Land. The last time we hosted the National Netball Championships was in 2013 at the Darwin Basketball Stadium. Being able to host again, this time at our own venue, is a vision which has been a long time coming. Netball Australias executive general manager of performance Stacey West said it was also a great pathway opportunity for developing umpires and coaches. The Championships provide the basis for our 17/U and 19/U national athlete squad selections, West said. Each year we see the talent expanded upon, which builds anticipation for our national programs in the years ahead. For our umpires and coaches in the pathway, the Championships provide a great opportunity to test out their skills in the national environment, as well as connect with peers and others in the sport at a highly competitive level. Ticketing information for the 2023 National Netball Championships will be released prior to the event.
