Library & Archives NT collects and holds a number of resources useful to family history researchers: Records pertaining to Northern Territory Government departments which were created since the granting of Self-Government to the Northern Territory in 1978, and those records created before 1978 from departments whose function and activity became the responsibility of the Northern Territory Government from this time ; Personal and community archives donated by organisations and individuals which are relevant to the history of the Northern Territory ; An extensive oral history collection which includes interviews of people whose memory stretches decades into the past. Oral histories sometimes include mention of other people, places, communities, industries, services and programs ; Published material from commercial, community, government and self-publishing sectors, in a variety of print, audio-visual and digital formats, that are about the Northern Territory, are created by people or organisations from the Northern Territory, and that includes information significant to the Northern Territory. Collections include primary sources and secondary sources; original and unique items, and published items. Archives come in a range of formats including files, photographs, maps and plans, registers and volumes, scrapbooks and albums, amongst others. Oral History records include audio recordings and in most cases written transcripts of interviews.,
